Bikes Available In Store

Remember our excitement in February. It was short lived – with delays from Omnicron filtering through. We do have bikes landing on our allocation and a new allocation of bikes from Specialized should be with us soon. See updated bike list below.

Exciting times when some stock starts to roll into the shop.

We love our riders and their patience in waiting in these uncertain times for their bikes to arrive.

In the last few weeks we have been able to get riders out on their new toys and have had some bikes land that are ready and waiting for their new riders to pick them.

The Shop also now has a Levo Expert Carbon S3 for demo. So if you have been thinking about this new 2022 Turbo – after all the spec research you do – pop in to test it all out on the road.

We will have a few more bikes land before the end of the month but for now we have on the Floor

World first for Flow Magazine

This is how awesome our own Megan is. She recently went off to the ‘Mother Ship’ for another Specialized World First, attending a Women’s Technical training course.

Needless to say she came back skilled to the hilt! Kath Bicknell from Flow magazine was there for a little part of the event to capture something very cool. Check out her article in Flow.

Specialized Venge – Limited edition!

Specialized has released a limited edition Venge frame to celebrate Mark Cavendish’s 100th race win. We were lucky enough to get hold of Number 141 of 310 worldwide!!!

Its truly beautiful.

“It’s just the speed of the Venge – it’s really unbelievable”. No rider has had more success aboard the Specialized Venge than Mark Cavendish. Winner of the Tour de France Green Jersey, the World Championships, and 98 other UCI races means Cav gets his 100th win prize – his very own S-Works Venge. As one of the most successful riders of his generation, Cav exemplifies the nature of the go-fast Venge, and this is the Specialized way of saying thanks to his hard work and commitment to high-speed excellence.
S-Works Venge edition 1

The paint job is rad. It looks Matt black but when the light hits it you notice the reflective green.
S-Works Venge edition 2

Also all of Mark Cavendish’s race wins are also celebrated on the top tube in neon green.

Test The Best weekend wrap up

Thanks everyone for a great weekend of testing bikes.

IMG_4486

What a fantastic weekend both on and off the bikes with over one hundred test riders over the two days. There were some massive smiles indeed rolling back to the event area.  Most tested bikes would have to be the Shiv Tri and Venge on the road and the Camber FSR and Rumor FSR (the brand new female specific XC-Trail bike) at the mountain bike demo.
A huge thank you must go to Specialized Bikes Australia for bringing the Best bikes and equipment to Berry, the South Coast United MTB club for allowing us to use the flows and thrills of Coondoo Road and to our Staff and Brand Ambassadors for your help in making the weekend such a success.  You guys rock!

Bike lights review – A ladies perspective

Deb and Bel were discussing their light choices in the shop last week and decided it would be helpful to see a bike lights review. So here they are… thanks girls!

Debs review of the 2013 Diablo Mk4 light from Exposure.

Exposure diablo

End of daylight savings means early morning rides require a high powered light to see. Having upgraded my bike last year I decided to choose a new light and it needed to have the following features; it must be lightweight, have a strong beam, be simple to use, be easy and quick to charge and be without an external battery pack strapped to my frame.  I found all these in the 2013 Diablo MK4 with 1100 Lumen’s of brightness.
It supplies enough light in a single beam for clearly lighting the road in the dark with minimal street lights. It lasts on full for about one hour or three depending on the setting, then at sunrise I change the setting to flash keeping me visible for the duration of my ride. It has clear indicators of the battery status giving warning to choose another of the 3 settings rather than just powering off. The Diablo is easy to remove from the bar mount to charge and is then set ready for the next ride.
The Diablo MK 4 is a great choice for dark early morning rides or commuting and the option of mounting to my helmet will compliment a more powerful light for night riding on the mountain bike trails as a singular beam.

Bels review of the DUO LED light system from Gemini

DUO

Riding during winter is a hard task in itself, and even harder when you don’t have some decent light for those 5am starts!! Hence its a great time to invest in a quality front light. Not only is it important for you the cyclist but also for the many road users that you have to contend with to ensure they can see you too.
Recently my old light packed it in, and I was on the look out for a new light with a few pre-requisites in mind;  it had to be rechargeable,  have high quality lighting,  slimline, plenty of battery life and cost effective.  Not too much to ask!  As I walked into the store one of the first lights I saw was the Gemini Duo light system.  What had caught my attention straight away was its size and how slimline it was.  Having smaller then average handle bars this was a great feature as I never seem to have enough room on the bars for anything.  To add to the compact size is that fact that the Gemini Duo as the name states has two LED lights which means the beam is spread wider proving better visibility and with 1400 lumen’s it by far weighs up against the other well known lights on the market.  It has 4 modes in total; high, med and low beam plus flashing mode.  A indicator on the light shows approximate battery life left going from green when over 20% charge left then to amber and finally to flashing red when getting low. Considering all this however I rode on medium beam (this was more then sufficient in the dark) for approx 3.5hrs before it went to amber and then a further two hours on low beam without the light going out.
The Gemini Duo comes with a small battery that can be strapped to either the bars or helmet and a small cable which is short meaning you don’t have excessive cabling which you have to find room for.  If a longer cable or additional mounts are required these all come with the kit too.
A great light, with many features and all at a reasonable and affordable price.

Dan’s Stumpjumper 29 FSR review.

The game changer. Stumpjumper 29 FSR

Ive been slow to join the 29ner party. I was unsure if bigger wheels would suit me and the type of riding I like to do and researching on the Internet didn’t help either. There are so many haters out there who are just afraid to try something new!

Stumpjumper comp carbon

So I made the decision to just commit, sell my 26″ trail bike and get a Stumpjumper 29.

when I first saw the bike in the shop I was immediately stoked. It looked amazing but I also felt a bit anxious about my first ride….
Would it handle as well as my 26″ trail bike?
Would I be comfortable hitting jumps on it?
How will it climb?
Will it get through the tight and technical sections of trails?

OH MY GOD!!!! The first run down the local trail was by far my quickest run to date, things we’re looking good. After the first section of the trail it felt like I wasn’t even close to using the full potential of the bike so I started deliberately braking later and the bike was railing all the turns and pulling loads more speed out of the corners! The Stumpjumper FSR 29 is so stable and traction is off the charts, I was instantly comfortable on the bike finding myself hitting all the jumps and in some sections pushing it harder than usual. Bare I mind this was our first outing together, wait till we get know each other!

Favourite features

Narrowing my favourite features down to just a few to share with you is not easy. There are so many aspects & features on the Stumpjumper FSR that I’m obsessed with. The most important thing I need to mention is the frame and how D-ialed the geometry is!!!! Instantly comfortable and confidence inspiring. The frame is so stiff and the 142 x 12mm rear axle makes this bike super solid and stable through the turns. They also have a funky skewer system – a collaboration with DT Swiss.
rear axle smaller

Fox suspension always impresses. The new CTD technology (Climb, Trail or Descend) is perfectly simplified. Flick the dial to whatever terrain your riding and shred.

CTD smaller

Specialized have also invested heavily in developing the new Autosag technology with Fox and Rock Shox suspension. Basically this allows you to get your rear suspension dialled in perfectly every time, no guess work. Using your shock pump to add the appropriate air pressure, sit on the bike, press the red valve and you now have perfectly set sag based on your weight. Again perfectly simplified!

Autosag smaller

Final Verdict

I very highly recommend the Stumpjumper FSR 29! I was honestly blown away by this bike. I think its a great match for so many riders, maybe not a pure XC racer or a downhiller but this bike can handle everything in-between. Its incredibly versatile!

Check the vid below of me riding my favourite trail.
